“Antioxidant has been a buzzword so far in 2017 but what exactly are they and how do we get them?”
Blackberries in season are a tasty reminder it is summer time. Blackberries go great with many different recipes from salads to smoothies as they make a perfect topping and a healthy snack. Blackberries sweet and tart flavour allows them to accompany a variety of meals and drinks while offering nutritional benefits for all ages. So far in 2017 they have been referred to as the "superfruit" by several publications.
Black berries are packed with nutrients. They are loaded with vitamin C, they are an excellent source of both soluble and insoluble fiber and they are low in calories. Sounds like a home run to us! On top of all this blackberries are also rich in vitamin A,E,K, B and antioxidants.
According to Laurie Wright, PHD and professor of nutrition at the University of South Florida, “Antioxidants are compounds found in foods that stop or delay damage to the cells. They help clean and remove waste products in our cells.”
There are unlimited resources on the internet to learn further about the benefits of blackberries but as far as we are concerned they are helping us feel better and age better as well as taste great, and thats good enough for us.
